Aujourd'hui dans la série travaux pratiques, donnez une seconde vie à votre montre Fossil FX2008, qui est, il faut bien l'avouer au regard des standards actuels, une antiquité.
la montre est éteinte, c'est normal, la batterie est morte depuis longtemps, on en profite pour lui ôter délicatement le dos...
... que voici, et que l'on met de côté.
Une fois la bête ouverte, on lui extirpe la batterie morte sans ménagement (pas de photo avec la batterie, l'opération a été effectuée longtemps avant). On note la présence des malheureux connecteurs qui ne sont plus collés à rien.
Et que voici une magnifique petite batterie pour iPod Chouxfleur, trouvée chez B & W Handelsgesellschaft mbH, qui ont la bonne idée de mettre les prix 40% moins cher sur leur boutique eBay.
On dessoude les vieux connecteurs qui ne servent plus à rien.
Et on soude les petits fils qui vont nous servir. Attention les enfants, on ne doit JAMAIS mettre des fils de la même couleur dans un cas comme ça, JAMAIS. On va appeler ça un cas de force majeure (aussi connu sous le nom de "flemme").
Reste à souder ces fils comme un sagouin sur la batterie en brûlant au passage le plastique. Et c'est là qu'on entend un cri perçant la nuit au Grêlon : "nooooon, c'est horrible". Evidemment il faut connecter les + ensembles et les - ensembles, d'où l'intérêt d'avoir des fils de couleur différente...
On teste : Dieu existe, c'est un miracle.
Il est temps de replacer le dos de la montre consciencieusement déposé précédemment, en mettant la batterie dans la bonne position pour que tout rentre.
Et voilà, ça n'était pas si difficile que ça, la tocante est désormais repartie pour quelques années.(Cyberpunk, 2008/08/04 02:43)

I'm not a programmer or engineer ... so maybe my comments will sound naive
At first glance, I presumed that there is a digital program controlling the flow of ACTUAL water drops -- opening /closing "micro-gates" -- so that each row has a unique distribution of water
BUT given the appearance of downward curving water flow, I started to think that the display uses a large and very thin, transparent LED screen -- on which is produced the ILLUSION of falling water
which is it ???
in any event, it's beautiful ... domo
attends, attends, attends ... another thought ---->
is there actually water flowing inside the thin LED screen -- continually splashing and evaporating at pixel locations, in the same manner that LIGHT and COLOR is distributed on a computer screen ????

In fact, your first explaination is the correct one, it's a hundred of small electrovalves reproducing a bits line. The best way to envision it is to imagine an unrolling paper roll, and a hundred of big pens with two possible states: up or down. Another way to see it is as a thermal fax machine, same principle applies
Your latest idea is very appealing, but I don't want to think about the cost in setting such a machine up

Can state-of-the art technology produce a TRANSPARENT screen that reveals no hardware ( I suppose that is essentially a hologrammatic field)
artistically, in the clip, I loved watching how they've ingeniously designed MOVING DARK SPACES in between the water flow
I know you write computer programs (and reconfigure watch circuitry) -- how much training do you have on the hardware engineering end ?

Otherwise, for the transparent screen it's already doable, but you will always need some sort of framing, even if it's not on all four sides.
For the hardware engineering part, no training beyond school!
